DRASH Shelter System Deployed as Medical Facility at McConnell AFB Air Show
ORANGEBURG, NY -- On the 29-30 of September, the McConnell AFB in Kansas hosted its Wings over McConnell Open House and Air Show. The air show brought many residents of the community together in support of the U.S. Air Force. Through a variety of on-ground displays and aero stunts, air show attendees witnessed the aircraft technology currently in use with the U.S. Air Force.
With over 100,000 people in attendance, the Sedgwick County EMS and Medical Battalion wanted to ensure that they were taking proper emergency medical precautions. The EMS, in conjunction with the Air Force Medical Wing, utilized DHS’ Deployable Rapid Assembly Shelter (DRASH) medium Trailer Mounted Support System (TMSS). The system was set up as the on-site Medical Shelter for attendees who required medical treatment during the show. The system also served as a staging area for those who needed to be transported to a local hospital. Medical teams treated over 100 patients within the shelter and transported three from the air show.
Donald Dehm, Senior Technician at the FT Riley DRASH Support Facility was present at the event and received positive feedback from Air Show personnel. He stated, “All personnel including the 22nd Medical Group Wing from the Air Force were very impressed with Shelter and Trailer operations and ease of use.”
