The 3rd (UK) Division held its annual Iron Triangle exercise on April 23 - May 6. During the event, the Divisional Headquarters evaluated its command and control capabilities, as well as the ability of its lower brigades to take part in a joint operation.

Throughout Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, local samba schools compete in parades at the Sambódromo on Avenida Marques de Sapucaí. Wearing ornate costumes and playing and dancing to music, members of the samba schools perform for hours each night despite temperatures as high as 90 degrees and severe humidity.

For a second consecutive year, DHS Systems lent support to New Orleans’ Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness during the city’s weeklong Mardi Gras celebration.

On February 5th, the 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division (5/2 SBCT) began their harshest mission yet. The Stryker Brigade was not traveling through the mountains of Afghanistan or across Iraq, however. They were taking part in a mission rehearsal exercise at the Army’s National Training Center (NTC) in the Mojave Desert.

On December 17th, the 5th Brigade Combat Team attended a demo held by DRASH representatives at Fort Bliss.

On September 22, 2008, DHS Systems received a contract worth up to $1.8 million to support Iraqi Army personnel stationed just outside of the Iraqi border in Um Kasar.

DHS Systems founder and Chief Executive Officer A. Jon Prusmack was recently elected as a formal member of the Small Business and Agriculture Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

DHS Systems recently conducted system training for its HP-2C/308 Intelligent Trailer at Fort Bliss, Texas. The exercise, held December 8-12, featured a digitally controlled Battery Support Center trailer designed to offer power and environmental control to shelters under the Intelligent Trailer program.

Working with local agencies, Connecticut’s Department of Public Health provided two of its DRASH shelters to serve as a command post and first aid station to help the various first responder units at “A Salute to all of Connecticut’s Veterans.”  The shelters were originally purchased in 2005 to be part of the State’s 14,000 square foot Ottilie W. Lundgren Mobile field hospital.

DRASH was on site to support the Texas National Guard’s 36th Infantry Division at Soto Cano AB, Honduras during the Fuerzas Aliades Panamax exercise.

DRASH recently provided several shelters and generators at the Democratic National Convention.

The DRASH Heater and UST trailer line have undergone significant engineering enhancements in the third quarter of this year.

When Hurricane Gustav blew ashore around 9:30 am on September 1, 2008 near Cocodrie, Louisiana, a low lying community 72 miles southwest of New Orleans, forecasters feared that it would remain a Category 2 hurricane, blowing winds at over 100 mph. But just four hours later, it had dropped to a Category 1 as it steamed inland towards Texas.

The National Guard’s first unit dedicated solely to emergency preparedness and disaster relief performed its first tactical operations command (TOC) exercise using DRASH command and control shelters in May this year.

DRASH business development representative Kevin Shirey has had his hands full coordinating the set up and placement of DRASH shelters throughout the 25th Annual Best Ranger event held at Fort Benning, GA from April 18 - 20.

On May 1, DHS Technologies received a service award for the company’s “unwavering commitment and support to the law enforcement community through invention and innovation” at a recent event held in New York City.

Several DRASH Systems were used during two National Guard-hosted, large-scale earthquake response exercises, held from April 21 – 23 in Beauford County, South Carolina and in Shelby County, Tennessee. The DRASH shelters were used for a number of applications including as sleeping areas, command and operations tents and press briefing tents.

DHS Systems has redesigned its M Shelter, providing more square feet for less weight and less cost than the original version.
